BJP president JP Nadda took to social media on Sunday to share the video of an old speech former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi made in the Lok Sabha. Referring to Gandhi's speech where he said that middlemen must be done away with to enable farmers to sell their produce directly to industry, Nadda asked, "What is this magic happening Rahul ji?"

While tweeting the video, JP Nadda went on to add in Hindi, "You [Rahul Gandhi] are opposing now what you had advocated earlier. You have nothing to do with the country's or farmers' interests. You have to play politics only. But this is your bad luck that your hypocrisy will not work. People of the country and farmers have recognised your double standards."

The speech in question was made by Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha in 2015 when he was an MP from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. Accusing the Centre of shelving a food park project in Amethi, Gandhi had recalled his conversation with a farmer. That farmer told me that it is difficult for him to sell directly to the industry since factories are far away, the former Congress president had said.

As the farmers' agitation against the Centre's three new farm laws entered its second month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused Opposition parties of misleading farmers. The PM, along with other members of his Cabinet, claim political adversaries were always in favour of farm reforms but decided to change their stance merely to oppose the central government.

Responding to the criticism meted out to Rahul Gandhi by BJP chief JP Nadda, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala also took to Twitter on Sunday. In a tweet, Surjewala said, "Dear Nadda ji, before misleading the farmers, you should have known that there is no MSP on potatoes. And...we also want reforms in the agriculture sector, but the question here is the way the life of farmers has been attacked with the three black laws."
