Avalanche hits in Army post in Kashmir, one soldier killed, two others injured

An avalanche hit a forward Army post in Kashmir’s Kupwara area on Tuesday night amid heavy snowfall, resulting in the death of an Indian Army soldier. Two other soldiers have suffered injuries after being hit by the avalanche.

The avalanche hit the Army post in Tanghdar area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. As per the details the snow mass hit the post at approximately 8 pm on Tuesday night and three soldiers were swept away.

The soldiers were rescued immediately and shifted to a hospital. However, one of them passed away later.

Avalanche warnings were issued in Kashmir’s upper reaches a few days ago after the region saw heavy snowfall. As the weather continues worsening, the government has issued avalanche warnings in the Kashmir valley.

A medium-level warning has been issued for the higher reaches of Kupwara and Bandipora districts of Kashmir while a low-level danger warning has been issued for the higher reaches of Ganderbal and Baramulla districts.
