State-owned airline Air India has denied allegations of its staff misbehaving and seeking bribes, levelled by shooter Manu Bhaker, who was travelling from Delhi to Bhopal on Friday.

The Commonwealth Games and Youth Olympics gold medallist had alleged on Twitter that despite all valid documents and permits, she was asked to pay Rs 10,200 for carriage of weapons. To this, Air India said she was asked to pay the carriage fee as she did not produce the document required for exemption of payment of handling charge for carriage of arms.

“… the applicable charges — that is Rs 5,000 plus 5% GST, for two — a total Rs 10,200 — was conveyed to Ms Bhaker. Ms Bhaker requested for 10-15 minutes from our personnel to procure the required document for waiver of charges for carriage of her arms on board. The moment she furnished the required document to the Air India check-in & Security personnel, her baggage, including the arms were accepted for carriage.,” the airline said.
