LPG costlier by Rs 25 a cylinder

While the price of LPG is linked to international prices of the product, the Centre has also suspended direct benefit transfer (DBT) to LPG buyers across most parts of India, since September when LPG prices were at Rs 594 per 14.2 kg cylinder in the capital.

The Centre directly transfers a subsidy amount to the bank accounts of low-income consumers under the DBT Pahal scheme after they purchase gas cylinders at market rates. The government has also cut the Budget FY22 allocation for the scheme by half to Rs 12,480 crore from Rs 25,521 allocated in the previous Budget.

There was no change in petrol and diesel prices for the second straight day, with petrol in Delhi at Rs 90.93 and diesel at Rs 81.32.
