Three-time former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi’s health deteriorated on Saturday evening. The 85-year-old leader had been put on ventilator support at the time of filing this report on Saturday night.
Gogoi was diagnosed with Covid-19 in August and was administered plasma therapy when his condition worsened. After testing negative for Covid, Gogoi has been battling post-Covid complications.
Doctors at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where Gogoi is under treatment, have termed his condition ‘critical’ as of now.
Assam’s health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who visited the hospital on Saturday, said, “From today evening, his health has deteriorated. He is suffering from multi-organ dysfunction. He is unconscious and is on ventilator support. He is unable to recognise anyone.”
“Around afternoon today, his condition deteriorated with difficulties in breathing. So, doctors started an intubation ventilator, which is machine ventilation,” Sarma, was quoted as saying by PTI.
Sarma said doctors of GMCH are in constant touch with experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, but have ruled out any possibility of shifting him outside the state in this condition.
Gogoi’s son and MP Gaurav Gogoi tweeted that the former CM’s condition was “critical”.
