In the series of events, it sounds like tensions are escalating in Rafah, a city in the southern Gaza Strip near the border with Egypt.

Israel has made it clear that it would “move ahead” with a ground operation in Rafah, to attack the Hamas hold-outs, Israel is going to excucute despite international warnings of a humanitarian catastrophe. A representative from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration told Reuters that Israel is proceeding with a ground operation but did not provide a specific timeline.

Israel’s Defence Ministry has reportedly acquired 40,000 tents, each capable of accommodating 10 to 12 individuals. These tents are likely intended for emergency situations, such as natural disasters or mass migrations, providing temporary shelter for those in need.

According to a report from Reuters, a government official in Israel mentioned that Prime Minister Netanyahu’s war cabinet is getting ready to gather within the next two weeks. They’re going to discuss and approve plans for evacuating civilians, which might take about a month to execute. This suggests they’re preparing for potential emergencies or conflicts where civilian safety might be at risk.

Rafah, which is near the Egyptian border, is home to more than a million Palestinians who have travelled from the rest of Gaza amid the Israeli offensive.

Now teh question is why Israel want to invade Rafah?

Well, Israel actually, claims that Rafah is hosting four Hamas combat battalions which are filled with thousands of retreating fighters.

Meanwhile, Egypt also warned Israel to reconsider the Rafah offensive as it “would lead to massive human massacres, losses (and) widespread destruction. Egyptian officials have suggested that taking military action in Rafah could strain relations with Israel and potentially jeopardize the peace agreement between the two countries. This implies that such an operation could have significant diplomatic consequences for both Egypt and Israel.
