Wellington: Kane Williamson was unfortunate as he was run out in a bizarre fashion on Friday during the first Test between New Zealand and Australia at the Basin Reserve. Williamson had walked into bat with the score 12/1. The NZ stalwart punched the ball towards midd-off and took off for a run. Unfortunately, Will Young – who was the non-striker – was guilty of ball-watching. Williamson ran straight into him and there was a mid-pitch collision. Marnus Labuschagne hit the stumps direct and Williamson found himself short of the crease. Williamson was dismissed without scoring. Here is the clip that shows what exactly transpired.

Earlier on day 1, Cameron Green rose to the occasion when Australia found themselves in a little bit of a pickle. Green hit a brilliant 174 to bail Australia out of a tricky spot.

“It feels pretty good … It was a pretty tough wicket out there,” said Green, who kissed the crest on his helmet after bringing up his hundred. I thought the boys played pretty well,” he said after his heroics in Wellington.

“It was nice to kind of stick out there and hopefully put a semi-competitive total on the board,” he added.

For NZ, Matt Henry with five wickets was the pick of the bowlers. His fiery spell helped the hosts bundle out Australia for 383.

At the time of filing the copy, NZ were reeling at 116 for seven.
