Juventus Star Cristiano Ronaldo Agrees For Massive Pay Cut Amid COVID-19 Pandemic: Report

Portugal football star Ronaldo has accepted a 3.8 million Euro wage cut from the Italy's most successful club during the coronavirus crisis.

Juventus head coach Maurizio Sarri and several other team members, including the superstar footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, have agreed to a temporary pay cut amid the coronavirus pandemic that will save the club around €90million ($100.26 million). The defending champions Juventus have not played since beating Serie A title rivals Inter behind closed doors on March 8.

As per the reports, Sarri and the first-team players have agreed what amounts to a four-month pay reduction to help Italy’s most successful club during the global crisis. The effective one-third cut to the players’ annual salaries will mean a huge drop in wages for a squad headed by marquee player Ronaldo.

Ronaldo is the best-paid footballer in Italy who is reported to earn 31 million euros a year.

According to Tuttosport, the move came after a conversation between club captain Giorgio Chiellini and the rest of the squad. Negotiations are still on between Chiellini and the squad with club president Andre Agnelli and chief football office Fabio Paratici for further wage cuts.

Three Juventus players have tested positive for coronavirus. Star striker Paulo Dybala was the latest before which midfielder Blaise Matuidi and defender Daniel Rugani all tested positive.

Italy have been one of the epicentres of the COVID-19 pandemic spread. Over 85,000 cases have been reported thus far and nearly 10,000 people have died.
