Telangana Assembly Election 2018: UP CM Yogi Adityanath Promises Karimnagar Would be Renamed Karipuram if BJP Came to Power

Yogi Adityanath was addressing a rally in poll-bound Telangana.

Hyderabad: It appears that the UP Chief Minister is not quite done with renaming districts in his state and wants to now focus on other states too. Campaigning for the BJP in poll-bound Telangana on Wednesday, Yogi Adityanath said that if his party came to power in the state, it would rename Karimnagar district as ‘Karipuram’. Addressing an election rally, Yogi said, “If BJP comes to power in Telangana then BJP will work for renaming Karimnagar into ‘Karipuram’ and respect your sentiments.”

Earlier, addressing a rally in Hyderabad, Adityanath had called upon voters in Telangana to elect a BJP government in the state if they wanted to see Hyderabad city becoming ‘Bhagyanagar’.

“If Hyderabad has to be transformed into ‘Bhagyanagar’, then I call upon you to support BJP to form the government (in Telangana),” he had said. Yogi’s promises are reminiscent of Telangana BJP leader T Raja Singh Lodh saying on several occasions that his party would aim to rename Hyderabad and other cities in the state after the names of great people, if elected to power.

The Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh had earlier changed the name of Allahabad to Prayagraj, Faizabad to Ayodhya and Mughalsarai Junction to Pt Deen Dhayal Upadhyay junction.

Campaigning has ended in Telangana on Wednesday. The Congress has formed the ‘praja kutami’ (grand alliance) with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) headed by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS) founded by retired Osmania University Political Science Professor Prof Kodandaram and the Communist Party of India.
