'Some People Get Foul Smell in Saying Bharat Mata Ki Jai', PM Modi's Veiled Attack on Manmohan Singh

New Delhi: Responding to his former counterpart Manmohan Singh’s statement that slogan of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ being misused to construct a ‘militant and purely emotional’ idea of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday stated that some people have problem even with saying ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’.

“During the freedom struggle some people desisted from raising slogans like ‘Vande Mataram’ and now they have problem with slogan of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. SWe are the ones who are working for the country while some (opposition leaders) are fighting for their party’s survival. Some elements which are opposed to the growing stature of India have become stronger recently.”, said PM Modi, in a veiled attack on Singh.

He made the remarks during the Parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday, which was attended by all the ministers and parliamentarians of the BJP. The meeting lasted for about 45 minutes and the Prime Minister spoke for 15 minutes.

Besides, the Prime Minister also talked about peace, harmony and asked his party leaders to ensure that these values were practiced and followed across the country. “For development, there must be peace, unity and harmony. He (PM) also said that even today there are some parties that keep party interest above national interest”, Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Pralhad Joshi informed reporters.
