Rajasthan Assembly Election 2018: Sharad Yadav Regrets ‘Body Shaming’ CM Vasundhara Raje, Says ‘Will Write a Letter if my Words Hurt Her’

This is not the first time that the LJD party leader has made such derogatory remark.

New Delhi: Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) leader Sharad Yadav on Saturday expressed regret for body-shaming Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. Talking to reporters, Yadav said, “I saw her statement. I have very old family relations with her. If my words hurt her, I express my regret. I will also write a letter to her.”

While addressing an election rally in Alwar district on Thursday, ahead of Rajasthan Assembly Election 2018, the leader had said, “Vasundhra ko aaram do, bahut thak gayi hain, bahut moti ho gayi hain, pehle patli thi. Humare Madhya Pradesh ki beti hai. (Vasundhara needs to rest. She is very tired. She has gained a lot of weight. Earlier, she was thin. She is our Madhya Pradesh’s daughter).” Yadav was seen saying in a video shared by news agency ANI.

Hitting back at Yadav, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje had asked the Election Commission to take action against the Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) leader. Speaking to reporters, Raje had said that Yadav did not only hurt her but also insulted all women.

 “I think not for my sake but to set an example of future. It’s very important that the election commission should take cognizance of the things like this. Also, I can’t see this being used particularly against women. I feel insulted and I feel that women are insulted,” Raje had told reporters.

This is not the first time that the LJD party leader has made such derogatory remark. Earlier in 2017, he had said that the ‘honour of a vote is bigger and important that the honour of daughter’. In 2015, while speaking in the Rajya Sabha, he made a comparison of the women in north and south. He said, “The body of women from the south is as good as beautiful they are. They (women) in our region are not that good as those (in the south) know dancing.”

The state went to polls on December 7 and counting will be done December 11. The state is witnessing a tough contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress.
