Rains Lash Parts of Delhi-NCR; 11 Flights Diverted at Indira Gandhi International Airport

The flight diversions at IGI airport in New Delhi led to air congestion. They were diverted as rainfall lashed Delhi and the adjoining areas on Friday evening.

New Delhi: As parts of Delhi received rainfall on Friday, 11 flights were diverted between 9 PM to 9:30 PM and between 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). Currently, there is air congestion, stated news agency ANI.

The light showers that hit Delhi and the adjoining areas on Friday evening brought relief to the place from the sweltering heat. The weather department has warned of hail precipitation over and nearby areas of Meerut, Modinagar, Loni, Khair and in isolated areas of Delhi.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted thunderstorm with rain and gusty winds over Delhi and its adjoining areas such as Hisar, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Panipat, Kosli, Sonipat, Bagpat, Gurugram, Rewari, Bawal, Manesar Ghaziabad, Noida, Hodal, Mahendragarh. All the states in the North-eastern region are likely to receive rainfall on Friday, stated the forecast by the Weather Department.

Rainfall has also been predicted for many places in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Haryana. Notably, there was a sudden spell of rainfall in parts of Himachal Pradesh on Friday.

Meanwhile, due to extreme weather conditions, the platform lights, lifts and escalators of the Delhi Metro Rail’s Violet Line may face outages at a few stations in Faridabad, news agency ANI quoted DMRC as saying.
