Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra, Foreign Service Institute to be Named After Sushma Swaraj: MEA
The MEA in a statement said that the renaming of the institutes has been done in honour of the legacy and decades of public service of the former External Affairs Minister.
New Delhi: Marking the birth anniversary of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, which falls on February 14, the Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday said that the Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra, Delhi, will be renamed as Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, and the Foreign Service Institute, Delhi, will be renamed as Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service.
“In solemn tribute to the invaluable contribution of former EAM Sushma Swaraj, it has been decided to rename Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra, Delhi as Sushma Swaraj Bhawan & Foreign Service Institute, Delhi as Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service,” the MEA said.

The MEA in a statement said that the renaming of the institutes has been done in honour of the legacy and decades of public service of the former External Affairs Minister.
“The announcement is being made on the eve of her birth anniversary falling on 14th February in honour of the legacy and decades of public service of the former External Affairs Minister,” the MEA added.

Sushma Swaraj, who breathed her last at the age of 67 on August 6, was on January 25 this year conferred Padma awards posthumously along with Arun Jaitley and George Fernandes.
While Sushma Swaraj, Jaitley and Fernandes were awarded Padma Vibhushan posthumously, Parrikar was conferred Padma Bhushan.
Sushma Swaraj served as a minister in all the governments headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee and held various portfolios. She was External Affairs Minister in the previous BJP-led government. She was the first woman Chief Minister of Delhi for a brief period in 1998.
After feeling severe chest pain, Swaraj was admitted to All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on August 6 where she passed away late in the night.
During her tenure, the BJP leader had been active and popular on Twitter reaching out to the Indian diaspora in distress for assistance.
