New Delhi: Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Sunday said that one has to understand that India has disputed land borders on its Northern Frontiers, partially unsettled borders on its western sector and the neighbour on the western sector has been indulging in a proxy war almost for the last 30 years.

In an apparent reference to Pakistan, Rawat said that peace overtures weren’t in order anytime soon and hence the Indian Army had to remain prepared by keeping pace with advancements in warfare. He said, “So, we don’t see peace on the horizon anywhere in the near future and therefore, our armed forces have to be ever prepared and prepared by imbibing new technologies, keeping pace with advancements in warfare.”

Stressing the need for artificial intelligence, the Army Chief General further said, “Our adversary on northern borders is spending huge amounts of money on artificial intelligence and cyber warfare, we can’t be left behind. It’s time to focus on artificial intelligence & big data analysis than keeping it confined to definitions.” (Also Read: Army Managed Situation Well Along Borders With China, Pak: Gen Rawat)

A few days back, Rawat had said the Indian Army will not hesitate to take action to deal with terror activities along the western border.

“We are ensuring moral dominance along the border in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said while addressing Army personnel in Delhi on the occasion of 71st Army Day. “The Indian Army will not hesitate to take strong action to deal with terror activities along the western border.”

He had said the “country along India’s western border” was providing support to terror groups and the Indian Army was dealing with them effectively.

On the eastern border with China, Rawat said new guidelines were being followed to maintain peace and tranquillity. “We will keep reviewing the situation along the eastern border,” he said. “Our soldiers will not allow any compromise in guarding the border in the eastern sector.”
