Man Beaten to Death in Bihar’s Sitamarhi For Informing Police About COVID-19 Suspects

On March 20, health check-up was conducted on the two Mumbai returnees after their return to the village. Fortunately, the due were tested negative for the deadly virus.

New Delhi: Amid growing concern over the coronavirus pandemic, a 36-year-old man was beaten to death by a group of people in Sitamarhi district of Bihar on Tuesday.

While, the deceased’s family alleged that he was killed for reporting to the police about the return of two novel coronavirus suspects to the village from Mumbai, police officials said they had received information about the Mumbai returnees from a local journalist and not from the man.

Speaking to news agency PTI, sub-divisional Police Officer (Sadar), Kumar Veer Dhirendra informed that the deceased’s mobile phone has been seized to verify whether he had made any call to the police. However, two persons have been arrested based on the complaint filed by the family members of the deceased.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 cases climbed to 1,251 in India, registering the highest single-day increase of 227 cases, while the death toll rose to 32. The Ministry of Health said that the  number of active cases was 1,117, and 101 people were either cured or discharged and one had migrated. The figure also includes 49 foreigners.
