Come to me For Jobs Even if You Don’t Vote For me, Says Varun Gandhi to Muslims in Pilibhit

BJP leader Varun Gandhi addressing a rally in Pilibhit on Sunday remarked that Muslims can come to him for help or jobs even if they choose to not vote for him.

New Delhi: BJP candidate from Pilibhit Lok Sabha constituency, Varun Gandhi on Sunday was caught making a statement stark opposite to his mother Maneka Gandhi‘s few weeks ago in Sultanpur when he assured to ‘help Muslims even if they don’t vote for him’.

News agency ANI quoted him as saying, “Bas mein ek cheez Muslim bhai ko bolna chahta hun ki agar aapne mujhe vote diya toh mujhe bahut accha lagega, agar aapne mujhe vote nahi diya, koi baat nahi, tab bhi mujh se kaam le le na, koi dikat ki baat nahi.” (I just want to say one thing to my Muslim brothers, if you vote for me, I will feel very nice but even if you don’t, you can come to me for help and jobs.)

This gains significance because Varun Gandhi’s mother and BJP candidate from Sultanpur Lok Sabha constituency, a few weeks ago ran into controversy for appealing the Muslim brethren to vote for her, and if not then abandon all hopes of getting any help from her in case she wins.

Addressing a rally, she had said, “This is important. I am winning. I am winning because of the support and love of people. But if my victory is without Muslims, I won’t feel that good. Then, dil khatta ho jayega. Then when a Muslim comes to me for work, I think let it be, how does it matter. It’s all give and take, isn’t it? We aren’t all sons of Mahatma Gandhi, are we? It’s not that we keep on giving and then lose in the election. This victory will happen with or without you. And you have to spread the word on this.”

Her remarks did not go down well with either the people or the Election Commission, which on April 15 barred the Union minister from campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections for 48 hours.

The BJP has swapped the mother-son duo’s seats this time, as Varun Gandhi is the sitting MP from Sultanpur, whereas Maneka Gandhi is an MP from Pilibhit.
