CBSE Exams 2021: Board To Conduct Exams In Written Mode, Top Official Clarifies

Examinations will be conducted in the written mode, as usual. However, all COVID-19 protocols will be implemented without creating problems for the students, Dr Joseph Emmanuel said.

As suspense over dates of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10, 12 and other class exams continue amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Board has made a big statement regarding the mode of exams. Several media outlet earlier reported that CBSE would conduct practical exams for students appearing in Class 10 and Class 12 Board in January next year. With schools unable to hold classes due to the pandemic, several experts, parents and educationists have demanded an extension of the session. However, Dr Joseph Emmanuel, Director (Academics) of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in an interview to Onmanorama said that the CBSE examination will be held in a written mode.

“Examinations will be conducted in the written mode, as usual. However, all COVID-19 protocols will be implemented without creating problems for the students. All students will not get equal facilities for online exams,” says Dr Joseph Emmanuel to Onmanorama.

Top CBSE official also clarified on CBSE Class 10, 12 Board Practical Exams. “In some schools, practical classes are being held. Practical exams will be arranged in those schools. However, as practical exams cannot be conducted in the other institutions, other methods to test the practical knowledge of students will be employed,” Dr Joseph Emmanuel was quoted as saying.

CBSE has also released a statement saying that the board has not taken any decision regarding the dates for the class 10, 12 examinations. The statement further adds that the talks with the stakeholders are still in process. The board however confirmed that the Class 10, 12 exams will be held in written mode with all COVID protocols in place.

“No final decision has been taken regarding the dates for conduct of CBSE board exams, and consultations with stakeholders are still in process. The exams as and when they are be conducted, will be in written mode and not in an online mode,” the statement reads.

The board has also said that the officials are exploring alternatives to practical exams for the students who failed to appear in practical classes before the examinations.

Earlier, there were reports that had suggested that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) may postpone the Class 10 and 12 Board exams 2021. Speculations are rife that the CBSE may conduct Class 10, 12 practical exams in January 2021. It is also reported that the CBSE is making preparations to hold class 10, 12 board exams 2021 in March.

Nishank had earlier tweeted that a campaign would be launched to seek views from students, parents & teachers on how and when to conduct the 2021 board exams.“A campaign will be launched by the Ministry of Education to seek views from students, parents and teachers on how and when to conduct the exams next year”, he had tweeted.
