Kim Jong-un has called for revising North Korea’s Constitution just to define South Korea as the “No.1 hostile country”.
According to North Korea’s ruling party newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, Kim delivered a speech on Monday at a key parliamentary meet, during which he said South Korea wants to bring down the government in North and therefore, should not be regarded as a partner for reconciliation and unification.
“In the event of war on the Korean Peninsula, it is important to take into account the issue of completely occupying, suppressing, reclaiming the Republic of Korea and subjugating it into the territory of the republic,” Kim said.
Kim told the delegates to specify in the Constitution that education programs should be enhanced and strengthened to get North Koreans to “firmly regard the Republic of Korea thoroughly as the No. 1 hostile country and invariable principal enemy.”
South will be annexed by the North
Kim also asked the delegates to mention in the Constitution that the South will be occupied and annexed by the North, if a war breaks out.
During the meeting on Monday, Kim also ordered steps to dismantle “remnants of the past” that can be regarded as symbols of inter-Korean reconciliation.
“We need to thoroughly take measures step-by-step to completely separate all connections between the two Koreas in border areas, including the need to physically cut the North side of the Gyeongui land route, to unrecoverable levels,” he said.
North Korea has recently also decided to abolish three agencies meant to promote inter-Korean dialogue and cooperation.
