A report by Variety says the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have introduced a new category for the Oscars- Best Casting. This shall begin from the 98th Oscar ceremony and be applicable for films released in 2025.

Oscars 2024

After leading the race at Britain’s BAFTA Film Awards, Yorgos Lanthimos’ gothic fantasy ‘Poor Things’ has now bagged 11 nominations at the upcoming 96th Academy Awards. While Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer overtook the race with 13 nominations at the top, it is closely followed by the Emma Stone starrer. The two award-winning films are next followed by last year’s highly-acclaimed film Martin Scorsese’s ‘Killers of the Flower Moon‘. Notably, the nominations for the Oscars 2024, considered among the world’s most prestigious awards, were recently announced showing Oppenheimer, Barbie, Poor Things, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, and The Holdovers, among others in dominance.

Poor Things at the Academy Awards

Indeed an award-season favourite, Yorgos Lanthimose’s  Poor Things  continues to deliver strong numbers at the box office and presently stands at an impressive $33 million in a global haul, taking Emma Stone as the new favourite in the Best Actress category at the award functions.

Talking about the 96th Academy Awards, Oppenheimer and Poor Things bagged 13 and 11 nominations, respectively. Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon bagged 10 nominations at the Oscars. Another of last year’s biggest box office hits, Barbie, also earned eight nominations.
