    After a lavish opening ceremony and with President Vladimir Putin watching on, Yuri Gazinsky put Russia ahead with a header off Alexander Golovin's cross in the 12th minute.

    Match 47: England vs Belgium
    Final Score: England 0 vs Belgium 1

    In a match neither team had to win, Belgium came out on top and took first place in its World Cup group with a 1-0 victory over England.

    Final Score: Tunisia 2 Panama 1

    Tunisia captain Wahbi Khazri and Fakhreddine Ben Youssef ensured their nation’s World Cup slump wouldn’t enter a fifth decade.
    Match 45: Colombia vs Senegal
    Final Score: Colombia 1 Senegal 0

    After a barren first half, Mina headed in a corner late in the second session to send Colombian players and supporters into delirium as they needed nothing less than a victory to secure qualification.

    Match 44: Japan vs Poland
    Final Score: Japan 0 Poland 1

    Japan lost 0-1 to Poland in their final Group H contest on Thursday but still managed to go through to the FIFA World Cup pre-quarterfinals.

    Match 43: Costa Rica vs Switzerland
    Final Score: Costa Rica 2 Switzerland 2

    Blerim Dzemaili (31st) gave Switzerland the lead before Kendall Waston (56th) restored parity for Costa Rica.

    Josip Drmic (88th) helped the Swiss take back the lead but an own goal in second half stoppage time by goalkeeper Yann Sommer poured cold water in Swiss plans of a victory.

    Match 42: Brazil vs Sebia
    Final Score: Brazil 2 Serbia 0

    Paulinho and Thiago Silva have scored to lead Brazil to a 2-0 win over Serbia that sets up a knockout-stage showdown between the five-time World Cup champions and Mexico.

    Match 41: South Korea vs Germany
    Final Score: South Korea 2 Germany 0

    Defending champions Germany have crashed out of the world cup after South Korea scored two late goals. Both the teams have failed to qualify for the round of 16. This is the second time Germany have been knocked out in the group stage the first being 1938.

    Match 40: Mexico vs Sweden
    Final Score : Mexico 0 Sweden 3

    Ludwig Augustinsson, Andreas Granqvist and one own goal by Edson Alvarez helped Sweden beat Mexico to secure their spot in the round of 16. Mexico despite the deafeat have qualified for the knockout phase.

    Match 39: Argentina vs Nigeria
    Final Score : Argentina 2 Nigeria 1

    Messi scored an exquisite 14th-minute goal to give the two-time champions the lead in a must-win game against Nigeria on Tuesday, but it wasn't until Marcos Rojo's 86th-minute strike that Argentina was assured of a place in the round of 16 with a 2-1 victory.

    Final Score: Croatia 2 Iceland 1

    Croatia defeated Iceland 2-1 on Tuesday to go into the knockout rounds of the 2018 FIFA World Cup as the top team in Group D.

    Match 37: Peru vs Australia
    Final Score: Peru 2 Australia 0

    Veteran striker Paolo Guerrero assisted on the first goal when Andre Carrillo volleyed the cross and beat Australia goalkeeper Mat Ryan in the 18th minute. Guerrero then got a goal of his own in the 50th, finishing a deflected cross from Christian Cueva. It was Peru's first win since beating Iran in the 1978 tournament.

    Final Score: France 0 Denmark 0

    A slow-paced game out of step with a vibrant tournament ensured already-qualified France wins Group C and Denmark advances as runner-up, both unbeaten in the group.

    Match 35: Iran vs Portugal
    Final Score: Iran 1 Portugal 1

    Portugal finished second in Group B after a 1-1 draw with Iran . The 2016 European champions will next face Uruguay on Saturday in the round of 16.

    Match 34: Spain vs Morocco
    Final Score: Spain 2 Morocco 2

    With a late contentious goal that was awarded after a review, substitute Iago Aspas provided the equalizer in injury time that gave Spain a 2-2 draw against Morocco and sent the 2010 World Champion into the knockout stage atop the group.

    Match 33: Uruguay vs Russia
    Final Score: Uruguay 3 Russia

    Both teams were already assured of spots in the knockout round, but Uruguay's victory put it at the top of Group A and looking toward a match in Sochi on Saturday against the second-place finisher from Group B.

    Match 32: Saudi Arabia vs Egypt
    Final Score: Saudi Arabia 2 Egypt 1

    With the dead rubber inching towards a 1-1 draw, Saudi's Salem Al Dawsari struck in the additional injury time to help his side notch up their only win in the tournament. Earlier, Mohamed Salah found the back of the net in the 22nd minute to hand Egypt an early lead in the game.

    Match 31: Colombia vs Poland
    Final Score: Colombia 3 Poland 0

    Falcao, who missed the 2014 World Cup because of a knee injury, made it 2-0 with a 70th-minute goal. Yerry Mina scored in the 40th and Juan Cuadrado completed the win in the 75th.

    Match 30: Japan vs Senegal
    Final Score: Japan 2 Senegal 2

    Keisuke Honda came off the bench in the second half and scored in the 78th minute, giving the Japanese a 2-2 draw with Senegal on Sunday at the World Cup.

    Match 29: Panama vs England
    Final Score: Panama 1 England 6

    A hat-trick from captain Harry Kane -- which means he is now the leading scorer in the tournament with five goals -- two from John Stones, his first ever in an England shirt, and a beauty from Jesse Lingard completed the crushing victory.

    Match 28: Germany vs Sweden
    Final Score: Germany 2 Sweden 1

    Kroos curled in a superb strike from an indirect free kick to grab the three points for the four-times world champions who are now level with Sweden in Group F on three points and behind Mexico who have six.

    Match 27th: South Korea vs Mexico
    Final Score: South Korea 1 Mexico 2

    The Mexicans won their second straight match at the tournament, beating South Korea 2-1 Saturday to move ever closer to a spot in the round of 16.

    Match 26th: Belgium vs Tunisia
    Final Score: Belgium 5 Tunisia 2

    The victory leaves the Red Devils top of Group G with two wins ahead of their clash on Thursday against England, who play Panama on Sunday.

    22nd June
    Match 25th: Serbia vs Switzerland
    Final Score: Serbia 1 Switzerland 2

    The Swiss goals were scored by Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri, both of whom are of Kosovo Albanian descent, and both celebrated by putting their hands together to make the symbol for Albania’s double-headed eagle.

    Match 24th: Nigeria vs Iceland
    Final Score: Nigeria 2 Iceland 0

    Musa opened the scoring in the 49th when he finished off a long-range counterattack with a composed, second-touch half-volley.

    He doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 75th minute after a swerving run into the area and a shot from close range.

    Match 23rd: Costa Rica vs Brazil
    Final Score: Costa Rica 0 Brazil 2

    Coutinho poked the ball past goalkeeper Keylor Navas in the first minute of injury time, and Neymar volleyed in another with virtually the last kick of the game six minutes later.

    Neymar then broke down in tears and sobbed for several moments. His teammates helped him off the ground to celebrate.

    Match 22nd: Argentina vs Croatia
    Final Score: Argentina-0 Croatia-3

    Croatia has a perfect six points from two games. Argentina has one with one group match to play and no longer controls its own fate.

    Match 21st: France vs Peru
    Final Score: France-1 Peru-0

    At 19 years and 183 days, Mbappe became the youngest player to score for France’s national team on soccer’s biggest stage. And his reward was leading his squad into the round of 16 with a 1-0 victory over Peru on Thursday.

    Match 20: Denmark vs Australia
    Final score: Denmark-1 Australia-1

    Christian Eriksen put Denmark ahead after seven minutes in Samara but Socceroos captain Mile Jedinak equalised with a 38th-minute penalty to give the Australians their first point of the tournament.

    Match 19: Iran vs Spain
    Final Score: Iran-0 Spain-1

    The win brought Spain level on points with Portugal in Group B after Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates defeated Morocco on the same score line. Portugal and Spain drew 3-3 in their tournament opener last week. But Iran could still go through depending on the results of the final group matches.

    Costa has now scored nine goals in his last nine international starts for Spain. Only Ronaldo has more goals at the current World Cup, with four.

    Match 18:Uruguay vs Saudi Arabia
    Final Score: Uruguay-1 Saudi Arabia-0

    Luis Suarez, who was making his 100th appearance in his national team’s light blue, scored Wednesday to give Uruguay a 1-0 victory over Saudi Arabia and a spot in the round of 16.

    Match 17: Portugal vs Morocco
    Final Score: Portugal-1 Morocco-0

    Ronaldo sent Portugal ahead in the fourth minute by outmuscling his marker and firing in a bullet header after a Joao Moutinho corner. The 33-year-old Real Madrid star has now scored 85 international goals, surpassing the mark held by Hungary legend Ferenc Puskas.

    Match 16: Russia vs Egypt
    Final Score: Russia-3 Egypt-1

    A three goal blitz in the space of 15 minutes early in the second half put the Russians firmly in command before Egypt's Mohamed Salah, who had a subdued game on his return from injury, struck from a penalty, awarded after a video review.

    Match 15: Colombia vs Japan
    Final Score: Colombia-1 vs Japan-2

    Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Kagawa scored from the spot as early as in the sixth minute after Colombia's Carlos Sanchez handled the ball inside the area and was given the marching orders by referee Damir Skomina.

    Match 14: Tunisia vs England
    Final Score: Tunisia-1 vs England-2

    Kane opened the scoring in the 11th minute during England's dominance of the early stages. But Tunisia equalized when Ferjani Sassi calmly slotted a penalty in the 35th and pushed the young England lineup right to the limit.

    Match 13: Belgium vs Panama
    Final Score: Belgium-3 Panama-0

    After a barren first period, striker Lukaku scored in the 69th and 75th minute to ensure the victory after wide midfielder Dries Mertens drew first blood in the 47th minute.

    Match 12: Sweden vs South Korea
    Final Score: Sweden-1 South Korea-0

    Sweden beat South Korea 1-0 at the World Cup on Monday through a penalty by captain Andreas Granqvist following a video review.

    Granqvist slid his penalty kick into the bottom right corner to see Sweden home in its first World Cup game since 2006.

    Final Score: Brazil-1 Switzerland-1

    Philippe Coutinho handed Brazil the lead with an in-swinging, dipping free-kick in the 20th minute.

    Switzerland made a strong comeback after the break with Steven Zuber exploit ing some loose marking to head in the equaliser off a corner in the 50th minute.

    Match 10: Mexico vs Germany
    Final Score: Mexico-1 Germany-0

    Hirving Lozano scored the lone goal in the 35th minute, picking up Javier Hernandez's pass inside the penalty area and beating Mesut Ozil before shooting past Manuel Neuer from 10 yards.

    Match 9: Serbia vs Costa Rica
    Final Score: Serbia-1 Costa Rica-0
    A curling free kick from captain Aleksandar Kolarov in the 56th minute secured a 1-0 victory for Serbia over Costa Rica in the opening World Cup Group E match in the Samara Arena on Sunday.

    Match 8: Nigeria vs Croatia
    Final Score: Nigeria-0 Croatia-2

    Croatia beat Nigeria 2-0 on Saturday with an own goal from Oghenekaro Etebo and a penalty from Luka Modric to go top of World Cup Group D, one of the toughest and most unpredictable in the tournament.

    Match 7: Peru vs Denmark
    Final Score: Peru-0 Denmark-1

    Poulsen squeezed his goal between charging Peru goalkeeper Pedro Gallese and the left post in the 59th minute after collecting a pass from star midfielder Christian Eriksen during an odd-man rush.

    Appearing in the World Cup for the first time in 36 years, Peru had overwhelming fan support at Mordovia Arena and the bulk of scoring chances, including a late-first-half penalty shot that Christian Cueva sent sailing over the crossbar.

    Peru striker Paolo Guerrero made his much-anticipated appearance as a substitute with about 30 minutes to go and had two scoring chances, one on a saved header and one on a clever back-heel that rolled just wide.

    Match 6: Argentina vs Iceland
    Final Score: Argentina-1 Iceland-1

    Messi failed to restore his team's lead when his 64th-minute spot-kick to Hannes Halldorsson's right was at a good height for the goalkeeper to get two strong hands behind the ball.

    Argentina opened the scoring in the 19th with a world-class finish by Sergio Aguero, spinning away from a defender to fire a rising left-foot shot.

    Iceland levelled four minutes later via Alfred Finnbogason's volley.

    Match 5: France vs Australia
    Final Score: France-2 Australia-1

    Pogba was unimpressive until the 81st minute at the Kazan Arena, when he set up a fine one-two with substitute Olivier Giroud to beat Australia `keeper Mat Ryan with a shot that took a deflection, hit the bar and crossed the goal line.

    Match 4: Spain vs Portugal
    Final Score: Spain-3 Portugal-3

    Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick, capped by a dipping free kick in the 88th minute as Portugal and Spain played to a wild 3-3 draw in the Group B opener for both countries.

    Ronaldo scored twice in the first half, only to see Spain rally for a 3-2 lead after two goals in three minutes early in the second half. Nacho Fernandez put Spain in front with a weaving half-volley from outside the penalty area in the 58th that bounced off the inside of the far post and trickled into the net.

    Match 3: Iran vs Morocco
    Final Score: Iran-1 Morocco-0

    Aziz Bouhaddouz headed a free kick into his own net in the fifth minute of injury time to gift Iran a 1-0 win over Morocco at the World Cup.
    Only on the field as a 77th-minute substitute, the Morocco striker dived to reach a curling cross from the left but wound up glancing a header past goalkeeper Monir El Kajoui.

    Match 2: Uruguay vs Egypt
    Final Score: Uruguay -1 Egypt- 0

    Defender Jose Gimenez came to Uruguay's rescue scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Egypt in their Group A opening game at the World Cup on Friday. Gimenez rose in the area to head home a free kick in the closing minutes of the match.

    Match 1: Russia vs Saudi Arabia (Group A)
    Final Score: Russia-5 Saudi Arabia -0

    Denis Cheryshev scored twice as Russia swept aside Saudi Arabia to open its home World Cup with a 5-0 win on Thursday.
    It was Russia's first World Cup win since 2002 and ended a seven-game winless run in all matches.
