Silvina Luna battled kidney complications stemming from a problematic buttock augmentation procedure.
Argentine model and actor Silvina Luna passed away on August 31, at the age of 43. She had been hospitalized at Buenos Aires Hospital, where she ultimately succumbed to complications related to a kidney illness associated with her prior plastic surgery.
Reports indicate that Silvina Luna had been admitted to the hospital for the last 79 days, undergoing treatment for complications stemming from buttocks surgery she had undergone in 2011. Her brother reportedly gave consent for doctors to disconnect her from life support.
In 2021, Luna had cosmetic surgery performed by a surgeon who had previously faced charges related to a patient's death following a procedure. This surgeon had injected a substance containing polymethylmethacrylate into Luna's body, a substance prohibited by Argentina's National Administration of Drugs, Food, and Medical Technology.
Back in 2015, Luna had experienced kidney stones, which were successfully treated. Subsequently, she was diagnosed with renal insufficiency and hypercalcemia, leading to weekly dialysis treatments, with hopes of eventually receiving a kidney transplant. In 2015, Luna had sought treatment in Miami to have the problematic substance from her buttocks removed.
On June 13 of the current year, Silvina Luna was hospitalized again due to deteriorating health. She was sedated and taken off the ventilator on June 29. The hospital later reported, on August 19, that Luna was breathing on her own, undergoing kinesiological, nutritional, and psychological rehabilitation. However, she contracted a bacterial infection afterward and was placed back on life support.
Tragically, Luna passed away two weeks after the death of popular TV host Mariano Caprarola, who had experienced complications from butt surgery performed by the same doctor.
