With the election campaign entering its last phase, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday kept up his attack against the Mahagathbandhan and the Congress, saying the grand alliance was questioning his caste in their campaign. He lashed out at the Congress government in Rajasthan, accusing it of trying to suppress the gang rape of a Dalit woman in Alwar, and over the delay in registering the first information report.

Addressing rallies at Robertsganj and Ghazipur in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, PM Modi said the Congress was unable to give 'Nyay' (justice). "The story of the gang rape of a Dalig daughter which took place two weeks ago is now coming out gradually. Instead of arresting those involved in the heinous crime," he went on to add, "the Congress government in Rajasthan and the police were busy in suppressing it as they did not want it to be become public till the polling was over."

The Dalit woman was gang-raped in front of her husband in Alwar and the assault was filmed. The woman's family have alleged that the police did not take any action on the case registered on May 2.

Modi retorted to Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati's comments on his caste and said the grand alliance "have started a new thing about my caste". He said, "I want to tell them that Modi belongs to just one caste and that is the caste that the poor belong to.

"I might come from a low caste but I am trying day and night to uplift each and every person from the lower caste and every poor person in the country."

On April 19, During a joint rally with Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and party chief Akhilesh Singh Yadav, Mayawati called Modi a 'farzi' backward class leader.

The PM also played on Congress leader Sam Pitroda's 'hua toh hua' comment to target the past policies of the party and the United Progressive Alliance government. He said, "So many scams took place but the Congress and its people had no remorse as their way of thinking is 'hua toh hua'...this is the mentality of Congress and it reflects their arrogance."
