The National Investigation Agency (NIA) 'informed' the Maharashtra government on Friday that agency is taking over the probe of the 2018 Koregaon-Bhima case citing NIA Act and the investigation spread over many states.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Friday hit out at the Union government, claiming that it has transferred the probe of the 2018 Koregaon-Bhima violence case to the National Investigation Agency without the state government's consent.

Anil Deshmukh and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had called a meeting of police officials involved in the investigation along with DG Maharashtra Police to understand the extent of the probe.
