An Indian Army jawan and a nine-year-old girl were killed as Pakistani troops shelled areas along the Line of Control in Poonch district. According to ANI, Naik Muddasar Ahmed, who hailed from Tral district in Jammu and Kashmir, died near Indian Army posts in Rajouri sector.

Heavy shelling and firing is on between Indian and Pakistani Army since Monday morning on the Line of Control (LoC), a defence official told IANS.

Pakistan, who "initiated" the attack, resorted to unprovoked targeting of the Indian positions on the LoC in Bhimber Gali sector of Jammu and Kashmir, defence ministry spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta said.

"The indiscriminate firing using small arms, automatics and mortars that started from 7.30 am is still on," Mehta told IANS in Jammu.

On 10 July, Pakistan Army had targeted villages and forward posts along the LoC in Poonch sector with mortars and small arms, damaging a trade facilitation centre and police barracks. In the shelling, a trade facilitation centre and police barracks were damaged.

On 8 July also, Pakistani army had violated the ceasefire and resorted to mortar shelling and firing along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district in which an army jawan and his wife were killed and their three daughters suffered injuries.
