Friends Reunion Special on the cards for one night only

It’s been almost a decade-and-a-half since Friends went off air after 10 highly successful seasons, but we’re still waiting for any update on the gang getting back together. So much so, that every little hint, rumor, or uncorroborated report raises our hopes only for them to be mercilessly squashed later. However, this latest bit of news could actually be worth our time and expectations.

Both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety published stories yesterday of preliminary talks being underway for an unscripted reunion, featuring all six lead actors of Friends — Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer — for one night only. The reunion is set to air on HBO’s upcoming streaming service, HBO Max. HBO Max neither confirmed nor denied the report, though it’s worth nothing that the network recently secured the rights to all ten seasons of the sitcom.

Among the cast members, Jennifer had dropped a hint last month on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show that something could be brewing, saying, “We would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is. So, we’re just trying. We’re working on something.”
