Bangladesh foreign minister, Abdul Momen cancels India visit

New Delhi, Dec 12: The foreign minister of Bangladesh A K Abdul Momen has reportedly cancelled his visit to India. This decision comes a day after Momen said that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill could weaken India's historic character as a secular nation and rejected the allegations that the minorities are facing religious persecution in his country.

Momen was scheduled to visit India between December 12 and 14.

According to the proposed legislation, members of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities, who have come from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, till December 31, 2014 facing religious persecution there, will not be treated as illegal immigrants but given Indian citizenship.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill or CAB was passed in the Lok Sabha on Monday is now tabled in the Rajya Sabha for its nod.
