Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday announced its support for joint Opposition candidate Meira Kumar in the Presidential polls.The announcement was made after a meeting of the Political Affairs Committee of AAP. AAP was not part of the meeting of 17 Opposition parties in June when it made the decision to field Kumar."We need to see the Presidential polls above political considerations.

Our view is that there should be consensus over the Presidential nominee and not elections. However, this time also elections are happening and we have take a decision to support Kumar," senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh told reporters.Kumar has also telephoned Kejriwal seeking AAPs support and this was discussed in the PAC, he said adding.Though parties like Congress and NCP were against AAP in the joint Opposition meetings, sources said CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and Trinamool Congress cheif Mamata Banerjee had their channels open with Kejriwal.The AAP chief had in April expressed willingness to join opposition in the fight against BJP after a breakfast meeting with Kerala Chief Minister and senior CPI(M) leader Pinarayi Vijayan here where he called for an alliance of "all good people".
