65th National Film Awards were announced today. Once again the Awards that we look forward to the most, did not disappoint. What came as a pleasant surprise was the Best Actress award. Late Sridevi was named as the Best Actress at the 65th National Film Awards. She has become the first actress in the history of National Film Awards to be given an award posthumously in that category. The honour has been given to her for her performance in the film, Mom, that released on July 7, 2017, also marking it as her 300th starring role in her career.
Sridevi passed away on 24 February 2018, at the age of 54 in Dubai. She was in UAE to attend a relative’s wedding and has stayed back for personal reasons after the functions. Her accident was ruled as ‘accidental drowning’ in the bathtub by the Dubai authorities. After an investigation, her mortal remains were brought back to India only on February 27 and were cremated on February 28 with state honours.
