TDP leader Ramesh raided, accuses Centre of 'political vendetta'

Officials of the income tax department on Friday searched the homes and offices of Andhra Pradesh’s ruling Telegu Desam Party leader and businessman CM Ramesh as well as his close relatives, news agency ANI reported.

The news agency also said that the department is searching his partners in Rithwik Projects Pvt Ltd. Ramesh is the promoter of Rithwik Projects.

The IT authorities also raided the residence of his brother CM Rajesh, a partner in MP’s industrial group.

“(This is ) a clear-cut case of political vendetta... Centre has been targeting our leaders from last 15 days. The same thing happened in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal and now Andhra Pradesh... whoever is opposing them is being targeted,” said Ramesh, according to ANI.

Lokesh Nara, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu’s son, accused the Centre of targeting leaders of the TDP.

“The Centre has begun intimidation politics with IT raids on party leaders Mastan Rao garu, Sujana garu and now CM Ramesh garu. TDP leaders are being unduly targeted for raising voice against the Centre for breaking every promise made during bifurcation,” he posted on Twitter.

“We will not be cowed down by this! It will only make our resolve stronger!!” he wrote.

The TDP broke away from the Narendra Modi-led government earlier this year over the Centre’s refusal to grant the special status to Andhra Pradesh.
