Jinson Johnsons gold medal in the mens 800m was the highlight for India on the final day of the Asian Games test event at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium. Johnsons gold was one of three won by the Indian athletes on the day, with the other two coming from the mens and womens 4x400M events. India also won a silver medal through Sarita Singh in the womens hammer throw and a bronze through Kamalraj Kanakraj in the mens triple jump event.
India finished with 13 gold medals, five silver and four bronze medals. Johnson, a former silver and bronze medalist at the Asian Championships, clocked 1:47.96 to finish far ahead of the field. Silver medalist Raed Aljadni of Saudi Arabia was over six seconds behind with a time of 1:54.17. The Indian mens 4x400 quartet of Jithu Baby, Kunhumohammad, Sumit Kumar and Jeevan Suresh timed 3:07:06 seconds, finishing 0.63 seconds ahead of Chinese Taipei quartet.
In the womens relay, the foursome of Hima Das, Sonia Baishya, Saritaben Gayakwad and Nithya Shree Ananda clocked a mediocre 3:37:76. National record holder Sarita Singh had a best of 61.75, well short of her personal best of 65.25 metres, for the silver in the hammer throw, behind Asian Champion Luo Na of China who recorded a personal best of 72.11m. Kanakraj recorded a best of 15.73M for bronze in the triple jump.
