A fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon in a high-rise building in south Mumbai in which Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone owns an apartment.
Fire brigade officials said the fire was brought under control in the evening. Around 90 residents were evacuated from the building.
According to officials, the fire was detected around 2:10pm on the uppermost floors of the building. Soon, thick black clouds of smoke billowed out.
Deepika was not inside the 34-storey Beaumonde Towers building in Prabhadevi area of Worli, said Press Trust of India quoting sources close to the actress.
Deepika has a residence in one floor of the building and an office in another but both were unaffected by the fire, said the sources close to her.
Twelve fire engines, eight jumbo water tanks, two breathing apparatus and as many ambulances were deployed. Fire brigade officials said they could not use the water tanker hose pipes to douse the fire externally due to the wind.
This is the third major fire to have broken out in Mumbai in the past week.
